Invite someone
In the sidebar, select Team, then Invite teammate.
Enter their Work email (the address they sign in to Microsoft 365 with) and pick a Role. Select Create invitation.
In Invitation ready, select Copy link and send it yourself, or select Share by email to open a prefilled message in your own email app.
They open the link, select Sign in with Microsoft to accept and then Accept invitation. They land in your organization with the role you chose.
Good to know
M365Assessments doesn’t send invitation emails for you yet: you share the link. It works once and expires after 7 days, and we don’t store it, so treat it like a password until it’s used.
Manage pending invitations
- Open invitations are listed under Pending invitations on the Team page, with an Expired badge once they pass 7 days.
- Resend (or New link) creates a fresh link valid for another 7 days; the previous link stops working.
- Revoke, then Revoke invitation, cancels an invitation.
- You can create up to 20 invitation links (including resends) per organization per day. If your plan has a seat limit, pending invitations count toward it.
Who can accept
- The person must sign in with the invited email address.
- In a direct (own tenant) organization, they must sign in with an account from your Microsoft 365 organization. MSP organizations can invite people from other tenants, such as contractors; the email must still match.
- Someone with a pending invitation doesn’t get a separate workspace of their own when they first sign in.
- If they are already a member, they keep the higher of the two roles.
Change a role or remove someone
On the Team page, open the actions menu on the person's row.
Select Change role… (Change my role… on your own row) or Remove from organization…, and confirm.
- Admins can manage Admins, Members and Viewers. Only Owners can make someone an Owner or change or remove an Owner.
- With single sign-on & roles on, people from your Microsoft Entra tenant are managed in Entra: Managing user permissions in Entra.
Troubleshooting
“This invitation has expired”
Invitation links work for 7 days. Ask the person who invited you to resend it.
“This invitation was already used” or “was revoked”
Each link works once. If it was you, just sign in. Otherwise ask for a new invitation.
“This invitation link is not valid”
It may have been replaced by a newer link (resending makes old links stop working). Ask for the latest link.
“You're signed in as …; this invitation is for …”
You signed in with a different account. Sign out and sign in with the invited email address.
“This invitation must be accepted with a work account from … Microsoft 365 organization”
The organization only accepts accounts from its own tenant. Sign in with your work account from that organization.
“People from … get access through Entra ID”
Your organization uses single sign-on & roles for that domain. Instead of inviting them, assign them a role on the M365Assessments enterprise application in Entra.
“Your organization reached its limit of 20 invitation links today.”
Try again tomorrow, or reuse links you already created.
